“The rise of off-label use is being closely monitored by diabetes organizations, whose representatives expressed concern about shortages. Robert Gabbay, chief scientific and medical officer for the American Diabetes Association, said he’s seen some of the patients in his own practice struggle to fill prescriptions at their local pharmacies. “We’re very much concerned about something that limits access to effective treatments for diabetes,” he said. While Ozempic’s website clearly states that it is “not a weight-loss drug” but may help those who take it lose weight, a number of third-party companies are capitalizing on the name to funnel people into virtual weight-loss programs.”
